🌿 Humanitarian & Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)

Building Resilient Hill Communities

In Uttarakhand, nearly 90% of cultivable land lies in mountainous and rain-fed regions. Agriculture is the primary livelihood for rural families, yet traditional farming has not been sufficiently profitable. As a result, migration from hill villages has increased over the years.

Dhar Kshetriya Vikas Sansthan (DKVS) addresses this challenge by strengthening rural livelihoods and reducing vulnerability through sustainable agricultural development.

Building Resilient Hill Communities

By promoting high-value aromatic and medicinal crops such as Lavender, Rosemary, Dandelion, Thyme, Oregano, and Damask Rose, DKVS increases farmer income and creates local employment opportunities.

Improved income reduces migration and helps villages remain economically active and inhabited.

Our DRR Approach

DKVS strengthens resilience through:

Cluster-based farmer mobilization (9151+ farmers across 255 villages)

Promotion of 533+ hectares under medicinal crop cultivation

Modern irrigation systems (drip & sprinkler)
Agricultural mechanization support
Polyhouse & protected cultivation
Quality planting material through scientific propagation
These interventions reduce livelihood risks and improve long-term sustainability.

Impact

In FY 2024–25 alone, farmer income from dry medicinal produce reached approximately ₹37,97,500, strengthening rural economic stability.

By enhancing agricultural productivity and market access, DKVS contributes to:

Reduced migration
Strengthened rural economy
Sustainable land use
Increased farmer confidence

Our Commitment

DKVS continues to promote climate-resilient agriculture, scientific farming practices, and structured market linkages to ensure that hill communities can thrive without being forced to migrate.
